About Leadership Portfolio
Since 2006, the CfG has delivered leadership programs to support Geelong’s transformation into a world-class city-region. Continued encouragement and mentoring of both emerging and existing leaders is essential to the successful transformation of Geelong. The CfG remains confident that with our leadership programs, graduates will become part of a courageous group of people ready to lead our city-region to excellence and prosperity.
Leaders for Geelong Program
The Leaders for Geelong program is providing our city-region with inspired and well connected visionaries who are better prepared to lead their own organisations and the wider community. Leaders for Geelong (LfG) is a two-year program that develops personal leadership capacity through a unique learning experience, designed to address the current social, economic and environmental issues of importance to the Geelong city-region.
Activate Leadership Program
Activate is an eight-week program for emerging leaders to explore the foundations of leadership and gain confidence, knowledge, skills and strategies to lift their leadership capacity for personal, professional and community benefit. Participants develop a strategic understanding of the challenges facing the Geelong city-region and are inspired and challenged by a broad range of information and guest speakers. Activate uses both experiential and adult learning principles to provide an engaging mix of learning experiences.
The CfG’s leadership portfolio alumni is made up of more than 400 members from Leaders for Geelong, Activate, LEAD Barwon and the Barwon Community Leadership Program. This number of alumni demonstrates the value of the investment made in leadership development since 2006. These graduates are passionate advocates for our city-region and are prepared, connected and committed to play an active role in community life.
Development of capable, knowledgeable and connected leaders
The CfG’s leadership programs develop capable, knowledgeable and connected leaders from across business, government and community sectors. Participants expand their personal leadership skills, increase their knowledge about the challenges and opportunities shaping the region and gain insights into diverse sectors and industries. Most importantly, they take action to make a difference beyond the program and become part of an enduring and rewarding alumni.
The CfG’s current leadership portfolio contains two programs: the flagship Leaders for Geelong program, together with a program for emerging leaders called Activate.
Previously, the CfG has implemented programs called the LEAD (Leading, Educating, Advocating for Disability) Barwon Program and the Barwon Community Leadership Program (BCLP).
The LEAD Barwon Program project was funded by the Victorian Government and was designed to help ensure that the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was the best possible system for Victorians with a disability, together with their carers and families.
From 2011 until 2014, the CfG delivered BCLP – also supported by the Victorian Government and generous local partners. This project was designed to support and develop leaders in Geelong’s socially and economically challenged communities.
We thank our Leadership Portfolio Partners for their continued support
