Activate #3 - Session two blog

How quickly a Thursday comes around. Although we are only into week two it was great to walk into the room and feel the friendliness and commitment of everyone to drop our normal working life and enjoy the afternoon exploring our leadership journey. It started with the boxed lunch and some informal discussion around mentoring and our own experiences.

The venue provided a great vista and gave an appreciation of how our first speaker, Rebecca Casson - CEO of Committee for Geelong, came to working in our region. Rebecca took us through her journey of leadership and how her values have influenced in her various roles. Being kind, authentic, taking time to reflect and celebrate achievements are some admirable qualities. She also provided a history of why the Committee was formed, their goals and their desire to promote change for the benefit of Geelong.

We were then introduced to Brad Clarke - MD of Better Communities, it was a really powerful display of his values of being open and vulnerable. He talked with great passion about being authentic with his values and how they guided him through his career and how he stayed true to those values through a quite dramatic event. He then introduced us to a light hearted game complete with fluffy dice which demonstrated all the key aspects of leadership and how they can affect a team's engagement and performance.

It was great to hear the honest experiences from some of our fellow participants in how their values had been challenged in their career and how they stayed true to themselves under some very trying circumstances.

After a great afternoon of speakers we had time to reflect on our how we are personally Living our Values and how we are performing in different areas of our life.
