Activate #3 - Session one blog

Activate Participant: Adam Gordon

Organisation: GeelongPort

Position: Operations Manager

Session One

The first session of our Activate Leadership Program commenced very well. All 16 of the participants arrived early and immediately started to connect over a coffee. We all shared our experiences with one another and immediately started to bond. I found the environment to be uplifting- it's great to be part of a group of like minded people.

Janelle covered off the general course outline and expectations of the course, then we immediately started our buddy introductions. Introducing your buddy is a great idea. I felt it forced you to reach out and connect with the individual prior to the program and develop a relationship.

We then had the luxury of listening and chatting with two presenters, Kevin Larkins and Michael Anderson.  They both have extensive experience in executive leadership. The team was very engaged during both presentations. The wealth of knowledge and experience was valuable for the team to share ideas and understand the thought process and experiences throughout their leadership journey.

I found both presentations engaging. They were completely different leadership styles and presentations, but I was able to align my experiences with certain points to give myself a different perspective of leadership, goal setting, mindfulness and influencing.

Overall week one went very well, time passed very quickly. I can't wait to see what's in store for week two.
