Activate #2 - Week 6

Activate Participant:      Simon Walsh

Position:                           Senior Finance Business Partner - Acute (Acting)

Organisation:                  Barwon Health

Session:                           Week 6

Today there was a shift from our personal/career journeys to that of our role in making our community a better place.

This is probably uncertain ground for many of us who look at the challenges & time constraints in our already busy lives and think where do I fit that in!

Fortunately the Committee of Geelong program supplied a four person leadership alumni panel who quickly put that thought back in the (unspoken) box, who through their own individual efforts politely put us to shame.

Gracefully, these individuals don't pressure us to lead in the community - rather encourage us to take our first steps in actively participating in our community.

I commend each of their efforts to make our community a better place and I think we were all inspired in part by their journeys.

On reflection, I think the current Activate group have already shown their willingness to participate in the Geelong community and I hope we all find a way to make an indelible mark.

I want to thank them all for their active interest in my journey and the earnest examples of care and consideration shown through the various coaching and problem solving exercises we've undertaken together.

Given that I am at an organisation experiencing significant transformational change, this half day out of the office a week arms and fortifies me to deal more effectively with the many challenges that arise each day.

I only hope that I have reciprocated this kindness and effected change in others as they have in me.

Whilst reflection has tremendous power, care from others in your community can truly transform individuals/communities and ultimately makes everyone's lives fuller and more enjoyable.

SW signing off...
