Activate #2 - Week 4

Activate Participant:    Madeleine Bent

Position:                           Owner

Organisation:                  Linear Studio

Session:                           Week 4

I've been super busy this week, at work and at home, and wasn't prepared for Thursday to pop up so quickly! It was an unseasonably warm day and windy, too. My mind was elsewhere when I arrived at the Victorian Regional Channel Authority, it was on deadlines looming, emails needing to be sent and the worry of washing on the line with the threat of an impending downpour. If given the option, I would have given Activate a miss and tried to get on top of my long 'to do' list. But I parked the car, answered the phone, tackled the parking meter (thanks Fleur!) and made my way up to the VRCA boardroom.

Immediately I felt relaxed. Sharing lunch and reflecting on our week in the context of our leadership journey is the best way to ease into the frame of mind required to spend time working on our personal development.

It was great to hear from Peter McGovern, CEO of the VRCA, who seems to lead with such ease and confidence.

Pauline Braniff was insightful with her Communicating for Success talk. Her experience and communication tips were valuable and the enthusiastic discussion throughout her presentation proved how enthralled we were.

Damien O'Malley continued his workshop from Day One and as we'd had time to consider our DiSC profile in the meantime, it was good to revisit the methodology again. I particularly enjoyed the task of reflecting on a situation from the point of view of different profiles.

We rounded out the day with the Marshmallow Challenge. It was a fun and challenging exercise and I loved hearing the observers' insight on how the different teams had worked.

Each week I am gaining clearer insight and greater confidence in my leadership journey. I appreciate the opportunity to pause each week and take the time to concentrate on my personal development. We're already half way through and I look forward to seeing what the next four weeks bring.
