LEAD in the News

LEAD Barwon participants featured in the media across the state and beyond as they went about their mission to share their experiences as the first users of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.  Here are a few of their achievements;

  • Jacqui McKim provided an insightful article that has stimulated enthusiastic debate on the ABC's 'Ramp Up' website. Read Jacqui's article, 'From a tightrope to a flying trapeze with the NDIS'

  • Jack Tori starred on stage at GPAC with the Wiggles as they performed 'the Wheel Chair Song' written especially for the group by Jack.  Jack delighted the audience while raising awareness about disability with great good humour.

  • Krystyna Croft presented at the Community Housing Federation of Australia NDIS Forum in Canberra.

  • Krystyna Croft and Susanna Keith were presenters at the National Disability Services Forum in Colac

  • Ainslee Hooper presented on a panel at the South West Disability Network Conference

  • Sharyn Lyons and Eliza Charters wrote blog posts about simple things that have made a big difference for them.  Read their posts here.

 Tom Banks workshop

  • Tom Banks joined the Committee for Geelong team meeting to lead a workshop about working with people with a disability.  Tom provided the CfG team with information and insight into the difference we can make by our actions and our choice of words.  Tom's message is to see the person, not the disability and to use language that demonstrates you are doing that.
    As a result of this workshop, the CfG team gained further knowledge to continue to work with professionalism and empathy with diverse members of the community.

 LEAD BArwon

  •  LEAD participants Jayne Crouch and Krystyna Croft stand with Mary Wooldridge and Andrea Coote in front of 'LEADing the Vision' a photo exhibit by the LEAD participants. This exhibit was installed in Colac, Geelong, Surf Coast and NDIA Barwon office. It showed each individual's NDIS journey through a series of images.
