The Barwon Community Leadership
Program (BCLP) was funded by the Victorian Government,
together with generous support from local partners.
The program worked with up to 20 participants who were connected
to disadvantaged or marginalised communities, either through paid
work, volunteering, studies or as a resident. The one year program
was designed to support and develop leaders in Geelong's socially
and economically challenged communities. It achieved this by
increasing participant's understanding of and exposure to issues
and opportunities in the Geelong region, while also creating and
strengthening networks that support the work with their
communities.
The BCLP ran once a year from 2011 until 2014. Throughout the
program, participants heard from a range of expert speakers and
thinkers. They has the opportunity to develop leadership skills
through regular training, exchanging ideas and working together in
teams on community projects.
See the full list of BCLP projects here.
Nearly 70 graduates of the program now form part of the 300
leadership alumni. A group of highly skilled and community minded
people, many of whom are very highly active in community issues and
organisations. See our Skills Bank page for
more details.
